A target reports what actually happened
When you enter a maximum size, this tool tests the encoded JPG at the selected dimensions and seeks the highest tested quality that fits. The completed row says whether the target was met and shows the output bytes.
A target can be impossible at the available dimensions and minimum quality. In that case, the tool shows the result at minimum quality and tells you to reduce dimensions in Advanced options before reconverting.
Balance size and image detail
JPG compression is lossy. Lower quality can reduce bytes but can also introduce visible artifacts, especially around text or sharp edges. Keep the original file and use the downloaded JPG copy only where its result is acceptable.
Use the optional maximum width and height when a file is still too large or an upload has pixel limits. Dimensions fit inside both limits; the tool does not crop or enlarge the image.
